Overall Rating
Price: £9,650 | For: It’s a funky-looking little car that’s as fun to drive as it is easy; to cap it all, it won’t cost you much to buy and run Against: Ultimately, its small size counts against it, as it’s short on rear legroom. The ride can be a little on the firm side, too, and basic versions are short on some kit |

Performance
Three peppy petrol engines are available – a 1.1-litre rated at 53bhp, a 59bhp 1.2 and a 99bhp 1.4 in the 100 HP range-topper. The 69bhp 1.3-litre turbodiesel is a better performer than the 1.1 and 1.2, with added motorway ability. Four-wheel-drive versions are available with the 1.2 petrol engine.
Handling
The Panda displays good body control. Most road imperfections are dealt with well, and the steering is responsive and well weighted. The 4WD model retains these fine road manners while performing surprisingly well off-road, too. The 100HP has sharper handling.
Refinement
Most engines become rather noisy when worked hard, although the 100HP is more refined and the diesel is quieter than many rivals, especially around town. Wind- and road noise become increasingly insistent as speeds rise, but overall noise levels aren’t bad.
